Women’s History Month

Women’s History Monthly Campus Events Flyer

Every year, March is designated Women’s History Month by presidential proclamation. The month is set aside to honor women’s contributions in American history. Originating in Santa Rosa, California, in 1978, as a national weeklong celebration, in 1987, Congress declared the month of March as Women’s History Month

The National Women's History Alliance designates a yearly theme for Women's History Month. The 2023 theme is "Celebrating Women Who Tell Our Stories." This theme recognizes "women, past and present, who have been active in all forms of media and storytelling including print, radio, TV, stage, screen, blogs, podcasts, news, and social media." The current theme honors women in every community who have devoted their lives to pursuing truth and reflecting society in all forms of media. We all have influential women in our lives who have impacted us in one way or another and it is important to remember that Women's History Month is about celebrating these women as well.
